Ricky’s Rockets ?: Gulfstream Park Picks for May 10, 2020

The final race day of the weekend is here! Saturday’s Sunshine Forever Stakes was a fantastic part of a Pick 6 mandatory payout sequence that paid over $31,000. Sunday’s Pick 5 sequence is pretty straightforward, so let’s end the weekend on a high note.

Best of luck!

Race 1: Maiden Claiming $12,500-10,500 for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf. Purse $18,000

#2 Noble Maria ran well in her first start of the year last time out and drops down in class to a much more manageable level. #12 Generic Mark was purchased for $150,000 and is making her debut in the maiden claiming ranks while running for the first time in 2020.

Race 2: Maiden Claiming $25,000-$20,000 for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt. Purse $25,000

In both prior career starts, #1 Apache was 13/1 or higher, indicating that he was overmatched against maiden special weight and maiden $50,000 foes. This level suits him well and the upgrade to Luis Saez should help as well. #3 Three Deep will stretch out for the first time on dirt after his lone prior start going over a mile was earlier this year on turf. His older 1/2 brother, Three Rules, swept the three Florida-bred juvenile stakes in 2016, so he has talent in his bloodlines. #7 W W Candy is another runner on the stretch-out for the first time. He should handle the distance well as his sire, Twirling Candy, performed well going long on the dirt in his career.

Race 3: Claiming $16,000 for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf. Purse $20,000

My top choice #5 Sugar Bolt is SCRATCHED.

Race 4: Maiden Claiming $12,500-$10,500 for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf. Purse $17,000

This was the toughest of the race of the Pick 5 sequence for me to find a winner. At this level, a lot of horses will either never find the winner’s circle or are taking massive drops. Runners I will use: #4 Ima Coalman, #9 Consilium, #12 Khattaf

Race 5: Claiming $6,250 for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt. Purse $17,000

#2 La Tres Jolie makes her dirt return after two straight turf races. She finished third in her last dirt race while running at the $16,000 claiming level and takes a major drop for this spot. #8 I’m That Bird makes her dirt debut after running on turf and synthetic in her career. Four of her five prior starts came going two turns, so she should easily handle this distance. #9 Flying Mamma drops down in class for Gustavo Delgado, who has trained quality runners this meet. As a horse with early speed, she should have no problem getting to the front out of the gate.
