Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Belmont Park, Churchill Downs and Santa Anita Picks for October 3, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀 made the most of Saturday afternoon, watching all of the action unfold across the country. With that in mind, it’s time to wrap up the weekend, with 8 more stakes races. Saturday was one of those days we will remember for a long time, but Sunday afternoon has plenty of great racing as well! Let’s end the week on a high note, and cash some tickets as we move closer to the Breeders’ Cup.

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Belmont Park, 10-race preview of Churchill Downs and 10-race preview of Santa Anita!

Belmont Park October 3, 2021

Race 7: $35,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the widener turf

#5 Mirabell Mei won at a similar level last time out, closing with every stride. She will need a fast pace up front again if she’s going to make it two in a row. #6 Princess Fawzia drops to the Claiming ranks for the first time after failing to finish in the money in four straight races against Allowance competition.

Race 8: Fasig-Tipton Waya Stakes (G3) for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 3/8 miles (11 furlongs) on the inner turf

#2 Always Shopping takes a major drop in class, considering some of the runners she’s faced in her most recent starts. She’s only won once this year, and that was back in January at Gulfstream Park. #7 My Sister Nat has run second and third a lot in her career (12/19 races). She can’t afford to be too far back if she’s going to want a chance.

Race 9: Frizette Stakes (G1) for 2-year-old fillies going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#6 Echo Zulu has been dominant in two starts this year, crushing a Maiden Special Weight field, and destroying the Spinaway (G1) group. She’s going to be tough to beat if she grabs a hold of the lead. #7 Jester Calls Nojoy was dominant as well, when she made her second career start. Winning by 10 lengths in any race will catch people’s attention.

Race 10: $45,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for New York-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#5 Judge N Jury wasn’t quite good enough to run in the Allen Jerkins (G1) against the likes of Jackie’s Warrior and Life Is Good. Not many horses are, but his race two back showed he can run in races similar to this one. #6 River Dog also gets back to state-bred competition, after running in the Amsterdam (G1) last time out. Like Judge N Jury, he couldn’t get the best of Jackie’s Warrior either.
