Belmont Park May 15, 2021

Race 8: Maiden Special Weight for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the widener turf

#4 She’s the One debuts for Christophe Clement, which can be tough. The other runners in this field don’t have a ton of talent, so it’s extremely possible she can win this race at first asking. #7 Dixie Kitten is also looking to win this race as a debutant, but the pedigree stands out with her. She’s by Kitten’s Joy, and should have no issue traveling two turns on the grass.

Race 9: $40,000 Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#4 Musical America drops in class, after running against Allowance Optional Claiming runners on multiple occasions. He does have a lot of second and third-place finishes, but I think that’s more about the competition he’s been forced to face. #7 Supreme Aura has been competitive at similar levels this year, so he fits in well. Manny Franco will now ride him for the fifth straight time, and in every race this year.

Race 10: Soaring Softly Stakes (G3) for 3-year-old fillies going 7 furlongs on the widener turf

#7 La Libertee is looking for her best distance, as all of her wins have come in turf sprints. This distance will tell us if she’s ever going to be able to go two turns at some point in her career. For now, this looks like the right spot for her. #10 Invincible Gal had a fantastic 2020 campaign, finishing in the money in every race except for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (G1). Other than that race, she was able to finish first or second and show us her talent on multiple occasions.

Race 11: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the inner turf

#7 Boom Boom Kaboom has gotten closer and closer with every race, but has yet to win in 11 career starts. With that being said, he has been competitive in most of his races. He will be looking to run down any runners that are too quick early on. #9 Panster is the horse to beat as he matures and drops down in class. Junior Alvarado was aboard in his last race when he ran against Maiden Special Weight competition at Belmont Park last October.
