NYRA Preview: Aqueduct 2/14

The Big A is back racing after being away from the track since last Sunday. There are two maiden special weight (MSW) races today that both shape up to be very exciting races. Aqueduct has also gone back to their 1 PM post-time as we get closer and closer Spring.

Race 1: $60,000 MSW for New-York-bred 3-year-old fillies going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt

#5 Micromillion never really got going in her last start on January 12 here at the Big A. Her last effort was her first effort off a long layoff, and it was evident as she never found her stride. She comes into this spot facing a much weaker field and having gone the mile distance. The rest of this field doesn’t really have much to offer as Micromillion will be the heavy favorite and should be the clear-cut winner.

Race 3: $60,000 MSW for New-York-bred 3-year-olds going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt

None of these runners have gone 9 furlongs before which makes this race very difficult to figure. Michelle Nevin’s runner #2 Zipalong showed last time out that the added distance from his debut to his second start suited his running style. I expect Manny Franco to have Zipalong closer to the front with the lack of speed in the field. Manny Franco and Michelle Nevin have had success together in the last 365 days winning at 16% and look for that number to improve with a big performance from Zipalong today.

Ricky’s Picks: 2-7-3-6
