Racing Dudes Three Stars of the Week: Something Awesome Becomes a Millionaire

There’s no getting around it: horse racing fans are playing the “waiting game” in anticipation of Kentucky Derby Day, now less than two weeks away. However, we still had a $1,200,000 race along with solid action over the weekend at Keeneland and Santa Anita. Let’s check out our Three Stars of the Week after all of the action unfolded.

1. Something Awesome

Meet horse racing’s newest millionaire! Something Awesome came into the Grade 2 Charles Town Classic off of back-to-back stakes wins at Laurel Park, but he’d never been in a race of quite this caliber. After dropping back into sixth place early on, he started making his move on the far turn before drawing side be side with War Story in the stretch. The two battled down the lane, with each horse leading at different times. In the end, it was Something Awesome poking his head in front at the wire. The win gives Something Awesome three victories in four starts this year and will likely catapult him into bigger races throughout the rest of the season.

2. Bobby Abu Dhabi

This horse has gotten hot lately! Two races back, he finished a strong second to rising star City of Light in the Grade 1 Triple Bend Stakes, then followed that up on Saturday by picking up a stylish victory in the Grade 2 Kona Gold Stakes. While City of Light was not entered in the race, classy sprinter Ransom the Moon was, but he was no match for Bobby Abu Dhabi down the lane as he won by over a length. The Peter Miller-trained colt sat just off of front-running Calculator for most of the race, then easily put him away at the top of the lane with a nice inside move. Look for this horse to get plenty of more chances in sprint races down the road in California as he looks to be an imposing force in this division.

3. One Go All Go

You have to love the consistencyt that One Go All Go has shown this year, and last Saturday, he was finally awarded with a victory in the Grade 2 Dixiana Elkhorn Stakes at Keeneland. Coming into the race, he had finished second in four out of his last five starts, but he was able to turn the tables on his rivals in this spot with a wire-to-wire win. Jockey Chris Landeros was allowed an easy lead throughout the race, simply dictating the terms during the entire 1 1/2-mile journey. This horse has shown that he can make an impact in tough races and will likely be a player in several turf New York events over the summer.
