Several Star Sophomores Dot Santa Anita Park on Monday

ARCADIA, CA – Several star sophomores dotted the Santa Anita Park workout report on Monday, led by the 2019 Champion 2 Year Old Colt as well as a pair of Kentucky Derby (G1) contenders from the Bob Baffert barn.

Trainer Peter Eurton sent the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) champion Storm the Court out to work 6 furlongs in 1:13.60 as he readies for a potential start in the $750,000 Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park on May 2. The Arkansas Derby awards 170 total points toward the Kentucky Derby (G1) Trail, with 100 going to the winner, 40 to second, 20 to third, and 10 to fourth.

The 3-year-old son of Court Vision took some time off following his Breeders’ Cup score, then returned in February’s San Vicente Stakes (G2). A fourth-place finish there preceded a third in the San Felipe Stakes (G3) in early March.

One horse familiar with Storm the Court also appeared on the worktab Monday morning. Baffert’s Nadal, winner of the San Vicente, was timed covering 6 furlongs in 1:11.80. He will work once more next week before shipping to Oaklawn Park, a move that he made successfully last March when he won the Rebel Stakes (G2).

Expected to join Nadal on the flight to Arkansas is stablemate Charlatan, who underwent an endurance-building 7-furlong work in 1:25.60. Charlatan is undefeated in two starts, including a 10 1/4-length corker in a two-turn mile allowance event, and worked in company with 3-year-old filly Gingham on Monday.

Gingham completed 6 furlongs in 1:12.40 and is possible for the $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park on May 1 after most recently finishing second in the Las Virgenes Stakes (G2). The Fantasy is a Kentucky Oaks (G1) prep race offering 170 total points toward the Oaks, with 100 going to the winner, 40 to second, 20 to third, and 10 to fourth
