Gulfstream Park February 7, 2020

Race 8: $16,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf

#3 Got Glee won at this level last time out, so there’s no reason to exclude her from multi-race tickets in this one. This is a very competitive bunch and she has just as good of a chance as anyone else. #9 Distinctly Blue won the last time she faced Claiming runners last September. Carlos David was aggressive with her but realizes this is where she belongs.

Race 9: Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-old fillies going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#6 Born Again will trying going two turns for Saffie Joseph Jr. after sprinting in her debut. Based on the way she ran, she never wanted to sprint. Let’s see her grind it out style in this one as she has more distance to cover in her second career start. #7 Precipate wasn’t very good in her debut, but she dueled to a quick first quarter (:22.19). For a first time starter, it’s difficult not to fade after being tired quickly. She should be much better here for Chad Brown, who’s barn is getting hot.

Race: 10: Starter Allowance for 4-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Reservenotattained has been dominant as of late and will probably be a short price again. If he runs his best race, no one is going to beat him. The one runner who I think could do it would be #6 All Around for Luis Ramirez. This race could heat up which would favor closers as the race hits the final stages. He is one of the better closers in this race and could take advantage of the opportunity to spur the upset. He needs the perfect setup to win however.

Race 11: $16,000 Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#3 Abiding Star should’ve never been running against the horses he was in his most recent races. At one point or another, he was capable of competing with $40,000 Claimers but not anymore. A lot of people will overlook him at this level based on his form. #12 Projected runs well no matter what as he has made over $667,000 in his great career. He’s still going strong, and has a chance to kick off the year with a win. The post isn’t great but he’s talented enough to overcome that.
