Keeneland April 18, 2021

Race 6: $20,000 Beaten Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#1 Alfie Solomons hasn’t been seen on the track since August 20 when he was running at Presque Isle Downs over the summer. This is a clear sign he isn’t the same runner he once was, but many people will be afraid to take this horse off of Wesley Ward’s hands. #2 Mobeatyabad dominated his last race at Tampa Bay Downs, in very similar conditions. Luis Saez will get this horse to the lead and see how far he can go without stopping.

Race 7: Allowance for 4-year-olds and upward going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#3 The Connector is as consistent as they come, finishing in the money in all of his starts this year, and finishing in the money in 6/11 starts last year. He does step up in class making the move to Keeneland for the first time, a race he clearly deserves to be in. #7 Kingpin is another runner making his Keeneland debut, adding another track to what already looks to be a stellar resume. Florent Geroux was aboard in his 2021 debut when he won at the Fair Grounds.

Race 8: $20,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 7 furlongs on the dirt

#5 Sovereign Change ran his best race when he dropped in for a tag two starts back. This is where he belongs and on his best day, he can win. #6 Whiskey Plank hasn’t finished better than third in any of his races, but he was able to keep some speed in his most recent race. When breaking down a field like this, there are a lot more flaws than positives on these horses resumes.

Race 9: Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-old fillies going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#2 Nevisian Sunrise has finished second in all of her races, but she looked much better traveling two turns on the turf. Her pedigree suggests she belongs on the grass, and she will be the overwhelming favorite in this spot if the public follows suit. #8 Maria’s Revenge ended up facing a much tougher field on debut than anything Murat Sandal would’ve hoped for her. Luis Saez takes over here, which means she should show a lot more speed in her second career start.
