Ricky’s Rockets ?: Fair Grounds, Gulfstream Park and Santa Anita Picks for February 13, 2020

Ricky’s Rockets ? has now made it two straight days with some big time cashes! This is the best run of form we’ve had in a long time, and we don’t plan on stopping anytime soon. We throw Fair Grounds into the mix on Saturday afternoon, to cover one of their biggest days of the year. Plenty of stakes action from California, Florida and Louisiana to cover and it’s all right here!

Also included below: my 13-race preview of Fair Grounds, 12-race preview of Gulfstream Park and 9-race preview of Santa Anita.

Best of luck!

Gulfstream Park February 13, 2020

Race 9: $16,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#2 Hoponthebusgus gets back to Saffie Joseph Jr.’s barn for the first time since last September. This mare has been in and out of barns for multiple starts now, but hasn’t been the best at this level in the past. She’s one of a few I’m using here. #4 Jost Sayin comes out of much tougher races for Carlos David. The last time she was in for a tag, she won by over a length last April.

Race: 10: $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

The horse to watch is #5 Structor who is undefeated in his career. However, I’m looking at two other runners #1 Penalty and #4 Grand Journey to upset him. They aren’t nearly as talented as Structor but they have been competing against tough runners as well. Penalty has been running against Front Run the Fed, Ivar and Halladay. Grand Journey has been running against Greyes Creek, Arklow and The Black Album.

Race 11: Gulfstream Park Sprint Stakes (G3) for 4-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#5 Mischevious Alex returned to the track in fine form last time out at the $62,500 AOC level. It was evident that was a prep to a race like this where he will be tested a lot more. The horse to give him the most trouble looks to be the #6 Wind of Change right to his outside. I don’t know how good he really is but he has been facing better and has a small chance to pull off an upset at a price.

Race 12: Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-olds going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#10 El Socio hopped out of the gate and was dead last to start. He progressed nicely throughout but never had a real chance after the bad break. He will have to get past #3 Floriform who finished second in that race. El Socio looks to have much more upside considering he’s only run once in his career. #12 Bracken tries the turf for the first two after sprinting and routing on the turf. I would’ve liked to see him sprint again considering he finished second in his debut, but I’m not the one to doubt Todd Pletcher.
