Fantasy Stakes Contender Spotlight: New York Groove

HOT SPRINGS, AR – Commonwealth New Era Racing, Madaket Stables, and Wonder Stables’ New York Groove will make her first competitive steps on dirt Friday when she breaks from the starting gate in the $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

New York Groove won all four starts as a juvenile, taking the first three on the Presque Isle Downs synthetic surface for trainer John Bourke before transferring to Mike Trombetta’s stable. She made one final 2019 appearance following the barn change, winning the Glorious Song Stakes over the Woodbine all-weather main track on November 3.

Trombetta tried New York Groove on the turf for her 2020 debut, but she faded to finish last of 12 after getting bumped around in the Florida Oaks (G3). The 3-year-old daughter of Verrazano recently fired a bullet 5-furlong best-of-16 workout in 1:00.00 in preparation for her dirt debut that will feature Stewart Elliott in the irons.

The Fantasy is a Kentucky Oaks (G1) prep race awarding a total of 170 points to the top four finishers. The winner will receive 100 points, with 40 going to second, 20 to third, and 10 to fourth.
