Fantasy Stakes Contender Spotlight: Lazy Daisy

HOT SPRINGS, AR – ERJ Racing, Great Friends Stable, CTR Racing, MyRacehorse.com, Tom Mansor, and Jerry Caroom’s Lazy Daisy will make her 2020 debut against a tough field in Friday’s $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

Lazy Daisy won her career unveiling at Del Mar on August 3 and went straight to the graded stakes ranks for her next three starts. Though she finished a well-beaten fourth in the Del Mar Debutante (G1), trainer Doug O’Neill shipped her to Churchill Downs just two weeks later, where she won the Pocahontas Stakes (G2). She finished 2019 with a sixth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1).

Lazy Daisy was originally intended for the Santa Anita Oaks (G2) before Santa Anita Park temporarily ceased racing operations due to the COVID-19 pandemic. O’Neill and jockey David Cohen, one of the track’s leading riders, have won three of six joint mounts at the current meet.

The Fantasy is a Kentucky Oaks (G1) prep race awarding a total of 170 points to the top four finishers. The winner will receive 100 points, with 40 going to second, 20 to third, and 10 to fourth.
