Fantasy Stakes Contender Spotlight: Lake Avenue

HOT SPRINGS, AR – Godolphin homebred Lake Avenue will make her third attempt at finding victory this year when she enters the gate in Friday’s $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

After breaking her maiden at second asking by nearly 13 lengths while covering 7 furlongs on November 14, Lake Avenue stretched out impressively in the 1 1/8-mile Demoiselle Stakes (G2), conquering that field on the front end by 4 lengths. The Bill Mott trainee waited to make her return in the 1-mile Busher Invitational, but she failed to menace in both that and her subsequent start, the Gulfstream Park Oaks (G2).

Hall of Fame jockey John Velazquez will travel to Hot Springs for his first mounts since March 29 when he hops aboard the Tapit daughter. Velazquez and Mott have yet to team up in 2020, but they combined to win nine of 45 mounts together in 2019.

The Fantasy is a Kentucky Oaks (G1) prep race awarding a total of 170 points to the top four finishers. The winner will receive 100 points, with 40 going to second, 20 to third, and 10 to fourth.
