Fantasy Stakes Contender Spotlight: Harvey’s Lil Goil

HOT SPRINGS, AR – Trainer Bill Mott will send Harvey’s Lil Goil after her third straight score Friday when she enters the starting gate for the $400,000 Fantasy Stakes (G3) at Oaklawn Park.

After finishing a well-beaten fourth while making her debut over the Aqueduct turf in November, Harvey’s Lil Goil switched to dirt for her second start and took a one-turn mile maiden special weight by 6 lengths in December. Stretching out to 1 1/8 miles in February’s Busanda Stakes, she drew off impressively to win by 7 1/2 lengths.

Mott has kept Harvey’s Lil Goil in training since the Busanda, with her most recent work a bullet 4-furlong best-of-six time of :48.20 at Payson Park. The American Pharoah filly will carry Martin Garcia for the first time and races for co-owners The Estate of Harvey Clarke (who also bred her) and Paul Braverman.

The Fantasy is a Kentucky Oaks (G1) prep race awarding a total of 170 points to the top four finishers. The winner will receive 100 points, with 40 going to second, 20 to third, and 10 to fourth.
