Appleby’s Creative Force, Naval Crown Complete Jersey Exacta

ASCOT, BERKSHIRE, ENGLAND – Much like he did 2 weeks prior in the Just a Game (G1) at Belmont Park, trainer Charlie Appleby’s barn completed the exacta when Creative Force crossed ahead of stablemate Naval Crown in Saturday’s Jersey Stakes (G3) at Ascot Racecourse.

Creative Force and jockey James Doyle were made the joint 4/1 favorites stateside along with Naval Crown and rider William Buick, with the latter setting the tempo along the standside rail until Creative Force drifted over from the far side to take the lead 1 furlong out. Creative Force, a gelded son of Dubawi, led his fellow Godolphin silk-bearer across the wire for the 7-furlong dash over soft going to win his fourth straight start and first against Group stakes company. His record now stands at 6-5-0-0, with his lone defeat a 10th-place finish in last year’s Coventry Stakes (G2) at Royal Ascot.

“Both horses turned up in great order and full credit to the team,” Appleby said. “We were hopeful on Creative Force’s pedigree and what he has shown us at home in his attitude – and the way he is finishing out in his gallops and his races – that stepping up to 7 furlongs would be within his realm, and he’s gone and duly obliged today.”

Vadream, Rhythm Master, Fundamental, Legion Of Honour, Tactical, Spycatcher, Storm Damage, Khartoum, Light Refrain, Great King, Mehmento, Bellosa, New Mandate, Mutasaabeq, Fast Raaj, and Nando Parrado – last year’s Coventry winner – completed the order of finish. Ace Aussie scratched.

Creative Force returned $10.40 to win and $4.40 to place. Naval Crown brought back $3.60 to place. Vadream paid $16 to place.
