Analyze It Sets Record In G3 Cecil B. DeMille

DEL MAR, CA – William Lawrence’s Analyze It exited the far turn with a full head of steam and rocketed away in stakes-record time to win Sunday’s Grade 3, $100,000 Cecil B. DeMille Stakes.

Off well from the rail under Jose Ortiz, Analyze It found himself with the lead and ran with it, setting splits of :23.40, :47.48, and 1:11.94 over the firm turf. By the top of the front stretch, Ortiz set his steed down for the drive and the pair blew away from the competition. Analyze It crossed the wire with a 4 1/4-length lead while completing the mile-long event for juveniles in 1:35.05.

“I wasn’t expecting to be in front; I thought I’d sit off the speed,” Ortiz said. “But he broke so well and he was going to easy, I just let him roll along. When we went to the 3/8 pole, I knew I had it won. I still had a lot of horse under me. I love riding horses like this; when you ask them to go, they go.”

Pubilius Syrus was able to separate himself from the rest of the field, crossing for second some 2 1/4 lengths ahead of a four-way photo finish for third. East Rand was a head past Choo Choo, with another head back to Inscom and a head further to Extrordinary Jerry. The rest of the field in order was Magic MusketierGolden DragonBig BuzzArmour Plate, and King Eddie.

The win was the second in as many starts for the juvenile son of Point of Entry, who completed the stakes double for trainer Chad Brown following stablemate Off Limits‘ win in the Grade 1 Matriarch earlier in the card.

“He’s an amazing horse to work with and be around,” said Jose Hernandez, Brown’s assistant. “I was a little worried early when the horse came up outside and tried to put some pressure on him. But I know this horse and he can be on the pace or off it. As soon as they turned for home, he was gone.”

Analyze It returned $3 to win, $2.80 to place, and $2.20 to show. Pubilius Syrus brought back $5.20 to place and $3.60 to show, while East Rand paid $13.60 to show.
