2019 Risen Star Picks and Wagering Guide from Fair Grounds

The first 50-point Kentucky Derby Prep Race runs Saturday at Fair Grounds in the Grade 2 Risen Star Stakes. You win, and you’re in the Kentucky Derby! A full field of 14 signs on, making this the largest prep of the year. The Grade 3 LeComte Stakes winner, War of Will, is back to try and make it three in a row since moving to the dirt. But will the outside post draw be too tough?

“It’s pretty well the same bunch that he’ll be up against,” War of Will trainer Mark Casse said. “Obviously the post is outside but we’d rather be out there than inside. He’s got enough speed so he’ll get over and if he’s as good as we think he is it shouldn’t matter.”

There are a total of SIX stakes on the 12-race card (four of them graded) with first post set at 12:30 PM CT.
