Where are they Now: 2014 Breeders’ Cup Winners

Juvenile Turf Winner: Hootenanny – INACTIVE

This impressive winner looked to be on the right track as he came back strong in a Keeneland allowance race in the spring, but faltered in a tough race at Ascot and has not been heard from since.  Clearly some issues have popped up with this one.

Distaff Winner: Untapable – ACTIVE…LOST FORM

If she could bring her 2014 form to this race she would be the 2/5 favorite…but that is long gone.  She did capture the Grade 1 Apple Blossom during the spring, but has failed as the favorite in the other five races she has ran in this year.  She continues to run tough and pick up minor awards, but just doesn’t have that normal burst that she displayed all of last year.  Add another returning winner to the list that will not be the favorite.

Turf Winner: Main Sequence – RETIRED

Came to the United States last year and reeled off five straight wins while picking up two Eclipse Awards.  Looked poised for a big 2015 with win in a Grade 2 February stakes at Gulfstream, but went to Dubai and faltered to finish seventh.  Returned to the states and finished seventh again, and was injured and retired shortly after the race.

Juvenile Winner: Texas Red – INACTIVE

Basically just hasn’t been able to stay healthy since his Breeders’ Cup win.  Missed the Derby trail due to injury, but finally rounded into form to win the Jim Dandy in early August.  However, was then beaten badly in the Travers and injured again.  Done for the year and no plans for 2016 have been announced.
