Free Pick: Wake Forest (8-0) at North Carolina (4-4) 11/6/21

The undefeated Demon Deacons come into Chapel Hill as underdogs against a very average North Carolina. On the other hand, the Tar Heels are very dangerous because they can score and the Wake Forest defense is suspect. This has upset written all over it. Let’s look at how Vegas sees this playing out.

TOTAL TEAM POINTS:

Wake Forest: Total Team Point Total 37.5 They have scored 37 or more points every game except one and they put up 35 in that one. They are going up against a North Carolina team that is allowing 31 points per game and have given up at least 35 points in 4 of their eight games. Logic and the statistics point to Wake Forest scoring over 37.5 points but that’s a bunch in a pressure packed game on the road. If forced to pick, I would take Wake Forest to go over the points but I wouldn’t bet much.

North Carolina: Total Team Point Total 38.5 North Carolina is averaging 37 points per game and Wake is allowing 24 points per game and the line is 38.5 total team points. I’m not sure I understand that. They scored 34 last week at Notre Dame and certainly are capable of putting up huge numbers. But, I would take the Heels to score under 38.5.

OVER/UNDER: 77 Total Combined Team Points

Both of these teams have quarterbacks that can make things happen. Sam Hartman has completed 65% for 2475 yards and 22 touchdowns. They are averaging 43 points per game and almost 500 total yards per game. The other Sam, (NC quarterback Sam Howell), has similar numbers and the North Carolina offense is putting up 483 yards a game. These two teams are fully capable of eclipsing the combined point total. However, I never bet the over when the line is that high.

POINT SPREAD: North Carolina is a 2.5-point favorite

Hard to believe that an undefeated 8-0 team is an underdog to an average 4-4 squad, but that is what we have in this one. Vegas is not sold on Wake Forest and tradition plays a big part in that. However, the Tar Heels don’t have much football tradition either. This will be a high-flying, exciting offensive show.
