Free Pick: UTSA (8-0) at UTEP (6-2) 11/6/21

We are taking a look at an undefeated UTSA team that has a very good chance of running the table and finishing 13-0. They head into El Paso and take on the Miners who are having a surprisingly good season. Will the Roadrunners get ambushed or will they escape and move on still unbeaten? Let’s look at the betting angles.

TOTAL TEAM POINTS:

UTSA: 32.5 Total Team Points They are averaging 39 points and 441 total yards per game. In only two games, (Middle Tennessee 27 and UNLV 24), have they failed to score at least 31 points. They have scored 52, 45, and 45, the last three weeks so they firing on all cylinders. They are balanced on offense, led by quarterback Frank Harris (69% completion rate for 1793 yards and 17 touchdowns), and running back Sincere McCormick (912 rushing yards and 9 touchdowns). The UTEP defense is allowing 20 points and only 295 total yards per game. No one has scored over 28 on them in El Paso. I don’t think it matters. They haven’t played anyone as good as UTSA. The Roadrunners OVER 32.5 total points.

UTEP: 20.5 Total Team Points The Miners are not flashy on offense. They average 25 points per game and and they usually score in that ballpark area. They are coming off a tough, hard-fought loss last week at Florida Atlantic, where they scored 25 against the Owls. Texas(San Antonio) is giving up 19 points per game and have a couple of shutouts to their credit. However, Illinois put up 30 on them and Western Kentucky scored 46. We like the Miners OVER 20.5 total points.

OVER/UNDER: 53 Total Combined Team Points I’m thinking the Roadrunners are going to put some points on the board in this game. I could see them scoring in the mid-30’s at least. UTEP should be in the mid-20’s. I would take OVER 53 combined team points.

POINT SPREAD: UTSA -11 On paper, this line is about right. However, being unbeaten sometimes can become a burden on teams. There is extra pressure and there is a bullseye on your back. This could create problems for UTSA against a team that is playing at home and is pretty good as well.

PAPA DUDES PICK: UTSA -11

AARON’S PICK: UTEP OVER 20.5 Team Points
