NO.24 UTSA 12-1 vs. SAN DIEGO STATE 11-2

This is a very good bowl matchup between two really good teams. The Roadrunners are one of the best stories of the year and have been in the Top-25 for a good part of the year. They are 12-1 and are the C-USA champions. The Aztecs of San Diego State were a huge surprise in the Mountain West and came out of nowhere. This is a great matchup between 2 Group of Five teams.

TOTAL TEAM POINTS:

San Diego State: 23.5 total team points. The Aztecs are scoring 27 points per game and they are a run-first team. They try to control the ball and play turnover-free football. Nothing flashy out of this bunch. The UTSA defense is giving up 24 points and 364 yards per game and they have given up 28 or more points in 4 of their 13 games. San Diego State has played a better schedule and should be able to score some points. I’m taking San Diego State OVER 23.5 team points.

UTSA: 26.5 total team points UTSA has an explosive offense, scoring 38 points and averaging 443 yards per game. But, the schedule is sketchy, with UAB probably being their best opponent. They are going up against a really good San Diego State defense that is very difficult to run on. This will be a test for the Roadrunners. I will cautiously take UTSA OVER 26.5 team points.

OVER/UNDER: 49 Total Combined Team Points Both teams are scoring a combined 65 points per game and I took the over on both teams team point total. I’m taking OVER 49 combined team points.

POINT SPREAD: San Diego State is a 3-point favorite The Aztecs definitely played a better schedule. They have wins over Utah (the Pac-12 champion) and, Air Force, Nevada, and Boise State all teams in bowl games. UTSA did beat 5 bowl teams, but none of them are high profile names. Still, they will probably be the most motivated team, with the most amount to prove. t
