Souper Escape was the 2/1 favorite as she broke from post 2 under Luis Contreras and settled into a close stalking position. Ahead of her, Gamble’s Candy dueled inside of Sister Peacock through opening fractions of :22.65 and :45.21.

Tipping out at the top of the far turn, Souper Escape commenced a three-wide bid to the front and straightened for home with a slight advantage. Painting rallied hard late to overtake Amalfi Coast for second by a nose, but nobody was catching the bettors’ choice.

The Mike Trombetta trainee crossed 1 length clear in a final time of 1:22.10 for the 7-furlong fast synthetic sprint.

“There was a lot of speed in the race, so I didn’t want her to go and fight with the speed like crazy,” Contreras said. “She relaxed behind those horses and I just took my time to make the right move.”

The top three were well-clear of the rest of the field. Another Time headed a weakened Sister Peacock for fourth, while behind them came Charmaine’s MiaMiss Mosaic, and Gamble’s Candy to complete the order of finish.

Souper Escape’s win followed last month’s dominating local score in the Trillium Stakes (G3) to improve her record to 16-6-1-2 with $269,908 earned. The Florida-bred 4-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly’s record includes a mark of 4-3-1-0 at Woodbine.

Souper Escape returned $6.20 to win, $2.90 to place, and $2.20 to show. Painting brought back $3.20 to place and $2.30 to show, while Amalfi Coast paid $3.30 to show.
