( Content Continues Below Ad ) Chalon was the 3/5 favorite under Paco Lopez as she broke from the far outside post in the scratch-shortened field of five. Bronx Beauty gave closest watch as Chalon ticked off opening fractions of :22.74 and :46.40. Chalon straightened for home still two-wide off the turn and responded to Lopez’s occasional encouragements, running straight and true before crossing victorious by a length. The Arnaud Delacour trainee completed the 5 1/2-furlong sloppy (sealed) sprint in a final time of 1:05.32. She was like a bullet today, so I just let her go.” Bronx Beauty remained 1 1/4 lengths ahead of Sunny Dale in third. Ode to Joy and Mr. Al’s Gal completed the order of finish. A Bit of Both, Ellyb, Miss Auramet, Peaceful, R Happy Ending, Sanity, Tomlin, and Too Much Tip were scratched once the race was rained off the turf. Flat Awesome Jenny was a trainer scratch. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hdhI2qZ4zSg Chalon’s win was her second straight following the Dashing Beauty Stakes at Delaware Park on July 11 and improved her overall record to 21-9-7-1. The 6-year-old Dialed In mare has now earned $971,895 and will next attempt to complete the one task still missing from her lengthy resume. “She’s a really neat mare,” Delacour said. “I was glad we were able to get into the race after it came off the turf, but the question mark was the track. She has never run on a sloppy track. … The hope is we can finally get her a graded stakes win, so we will point her to the Honorable Miss (G2) at Saratoga (on September 6; she was second in last year’s edition).” Chalon returned $3.40 to win, $2.40 to place, and $2.10 to show. Bronx Beauty brought back $3.80 to place and $2.40 to show, while Sunny Dale paid $2.20 to show.
