Souper Escape was the narrow second choice in the field of seven fillies and mares as she broke like a rocket from the rail under Luis Contreras.

Another Time was the only runner to get anywhere close, coming within 1 length halfway around, but it was all Souper Escape from start to finish.

The Mike Trombetta trainee was 4 1/2 easy lengths clear at the wire while completing the 1 1/16-mile fast synthetic route in a final time of 1:42.78, just missing Freitag’s track record of 1:42.16 set in 2016.

“When she came out from the gate, she was so nice and relaxed, it looked like it was kind of easy, but she was all game today,” Contreras said. “When I turned for home, I had so much horse and she just kept rolling.”

The 5/2 second choice Painting rallied from last to take second over a fading Another Time. Art of AlmostWings of DawnTheodora B., and Nantucket Red completed the order of finish.

Amalfi Coast was scratched.

Souper Escape’s win was her first of the year and improved her overall record to 15-5-1-2. The Florida-bred 4-year-old Medaglia d’Oro filly has now earned $213,383.

Souper Escape returned $7.50 to win, $4 to place, and $3.10 to show. Painting brought back $3.70 to place and $2.60 to show, while Another Time paid $3.40 to show.
