Breaking from the far outside post 8 under Tyler Gaffalione as the 9/5 co-favorite, Sound Machine rated just off of the heels of early leader Sayonara Baby, whom Luis Saez hustled hard out of the gate. Once she settled along the inside, Sayonara Baby posted opening fractions of :22.44 and :45.39 while Sound Machine watched closely.

Ranging up along the pacesetter’s outside in the far turn, Sound Machine straightened for home with a slim advantage, and when given her cue, the race was all but over. Taking off with a strong turn of foot in the stretch, Sound Machine drew off impressively for the unquestioned victory.

Trained by Saffie Joseph, Jr., Sound Machine finished 6 1/2 lengths the best in a final time of 1:17.35 for the 6 1/2-furlong sprint over the fast main track.

“Tyler gave her a perfect trip,” said Joseph, Jr., who also won the Kitten’s Joy Stakes (G3) earlier on the card. “He worked her on Sunday and he was very confident. He came back and he was like, ‘Wow.’ He rode her with confidence and she ran that way.”

Though no match for the winner, Sayonara Baby held second by 1 1/2 lengths over Spanish Point, the other 9/5 co-favorite who raced wide throughout and could not close when it mattered.

Lavi was a 1/2-length behind in fourth, while Tale of Success necked out Lady Anna for fifth. Glory Dia and Addilyn completed the order of finish.

Sound Machine’s win was her first since breaking her maiden on debut, going 5 1/2 furlongs over the local main strip against fellow Florida-breds. The 3-year-old daughter of Into Mischief, purchased for $500,000 as a yearling, increased her earnings mark to $89,164 with a record of 4-2-1-0.

“She trained much more forwardly for this race,” said Joseph, Jr. “I knew she was going to improve, but I didn’t know how she was going to handle 6 1/2 and she handled it well.”

Sound Machine returned $5.80 to win, $3.80 to place, and $2.60 to show. Sayonara Baby brought back $9.20 to place and $5.40 to show, while Spanish Point paid $2.60 to show.
