She’s My Type Wins Ginger Brew

HALLANDALE BEACH, FL – A seemingly effortless move in the far turn propelled Ghislaine Head’s She’s My Type to the lead, where she stayed through to the wire in Saturday’s $100,000 Ginger Brew Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

Breaking from the far outside post 12 under Tyler Gaffalione at 9/1 odds, She’s My Type sat back and settled in the two path heading into the clubhouse turn. Hear My Prayer was hustled out of gate 9 and was able to clear her inner rivals to assume sole command before posting fractions of :23.09 and :46.24.

Tipped out to run four-wide in the far turn, She’s My Type began knifing her way between foes and emerged at the top of the stretch within striking range of the pacesetter. Hear My Prayer soon gave up the lead at the 1/8 pole as She’s My Type swept past and took off.

Moral Reasoning and Abscond came running late and fought each other for the minor awards, but neither was able to catch the winning filly in time. The Christophe Clement-trained She’s My Type finished a neck clear in a final time of 1:28.12 for the 7 1/2-furlong sprint over the firm turf course.

“She’s a really talented filly,” Gaffalione said. “She overcame a lot today. I didn’t give her the best of trips. I moved a little early on her. I tried to get out on the turn. I didn’t want to wait too long and get boxed in. She had such a turn of foot and so much raw ability. All the credit goes to Mr. Clement. He’s been telling me for a while how nice she is. She proved it today.”

Moral Reasoning took second by a 1/2-length over Abscond, the 2/1 favorite who last year won the Natalma Stakes (G1) before finishing seventh in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1)Sunset Promise took fourth by a 1/2-length ahead of Bredenbury, herself a 1/2-length over the fading Hear My Prayer.
