Saratoga July 28, 2021

Race 7: $100,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the inner turf

#6 Tamahere has only won one race in the United States, but who can blame her. She lost to both Charlie Appleby horses in the Just A Game Stakes (G1) on Belmont Stakes day. #7 Sweet Melania doesn’t fit with this group on paper, but her lone speed could make things very interesting. She’s never finished worse than second here either.

Race 8: Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Melon turf

#7 Noble Emotion will look to make it two in a row, after winning his 2021 debut. When he gets to the front end, he runs his better races. His lone race here at Saratoga was a gate-to-wire effort last August. #10 Unitedandresolute is supposed to win this race based on class. He tends to finish second or third too often to completely trust him on paper.

Race 9: Honorable Miss Handicap (G2) for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#4 Lake Avenue cuts back in distance once again, after going 7 furlongs in the Bed O’ Roses Stakes (G3) last month. She’s looking for her first win since March when she won at Aqueduct. #9 Bell’s the One is the horse to beat. She’s held some good company in the past, and recently became a seven-figure purse earner.

Race 10: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the Melon turf

#3 Caribbean Gold has the speed to get the lead, but he tends to give it up in the stretch. Mike Maker just needs to tweak a few things to get him into the winners’ circle. #12 Flight to Paradise will have a tough time breaking from the far outside here. Javier Castellano is aboard a horse with more than enough talent to win if he gets the right trip.
