Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Saratoga Picks for August 18, 2021

It’s time for a brand new week at Saratoga, and Ricky’s Rockets🚀 is here to kick it off! On Wednesday’s card, we have the Bolton Landing Stakes and the Jonathan Sheppard Stakes (G1) for hurdlers. Only at Saratoga can we have two stakes races on a Wednesday afternoon!

Saratoga August 18, 2021

Race 7: Starter Allowance for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#1 Bayshore Foxes hasn’t been able to repeat his Maiden Special Weight win back in April, but his race last time out should make him competitive in this spot. #6 Air Cavalry also is coming off of an incredibly tough race last time out. She should be on the front end, something Luis Saez is very good at.

Race 8: $40,000 Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 7 furlongs on the dirt OFF TURF

#6 Parlor is making his first start at Saratoga, but this is a spot that makes a lot of sense. He hasn’t been able to compete against Stakes horses in quite some time, so dropping in for a tag is what he needs to be doing. #11 Troubling Moon showed back in January he can compete against Claimers. His last two starts against better haven’t been up to par.

Race 9: Bolton Landing Stakes for 2-year-old fillies going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Melon turf

#4 Flip My Id comes into this race as a supplemented horse, which is extremely interesting. Connections that supplement a horse, is an indication that he/she will run well. #5 Poppy Flower finally broke her maiden for Wesley Ward, after three attempts. Jose Ortiz will look to make it two in a row as she faces Stakes runners.

Race 10: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#1 Clear Humor wasn’t able to get the job done in either race for George Weaver, but he did look much better at this level last month. He was good enough in that race to win this race for Brittany Russell. #3 Multiple Expansion drops in class for the first time after finishing sixth at the Maiden Special Weight level back in April.
