Ricky’s Rockets ?: Gulfstream Park Picks for February 18, 2020

Ricky’s Rockets ? had another strong week especially in New York and Santa Anita. We had three $20+ winners on our only day at Aqueduct, and 3/4 winning days from Santa Anita. We only have Gulfstream on Thursday, since Aqueduct and Oaklawn have been cancelled due to inclement weather.

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park.

Best of luck!

Gulfstream Park February 18, 2020

Race 7: Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-old fillies going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#1 Munnyfor Ro will get back to Maiden Special Weight runners for the first time since she came from Woodbine. Her race at the $35,000 Maiden Claiming level would make her somewhat competitive in this race. Jose Ortiz picks up the mount for the second straight race. #11 Semble Juste tried the turf for the first time last month, and she didn’t run any better or worse than her races on the dirt. Her Timeform figures fit in well with the rest of this field.

Race 8: $12,500 Allowance Optional Claiming for Florida-bred 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#1 Gangly has been in great form as of late so he obviously needs to be included on tickets here. Admittedly, his best distance is probably 6 or 7 furlongs so that’s something to keep an eye on. #8 Green Mansions moves to Amador Sanchez’s barn after one start for Jorge Delgado. He was just a neck away from winning at this level last time out.

Race 9: $16,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for Florida-bred 4-year-olds and upward going about 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#7 Kroy continues to search for his first win since last May when he was in Danny Gargan’s barn. He gets back to Gargan which should be a positive, but singling a horse with this kind of form would be naive. #10 Freedom Matters has a lot more seconds/thirds than wins. He belongs at this level but hasn’t been able to find his best kick late.

Race 10: $25,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#4 Hotsy Totsy will have to come from way out of it, but she lost one of the closers she would’ve had to contend with in Get Rewarded. She is now the best closer by quite a large margin. #6 Beam of Light wasn’t too far behind Get Rewarded in that race, so 8/1 was a little surprising to see. Many will dismiss her off of that effort, but I’ll be more than happy to see if she can turn the tables on her here.
