Ricky’s Rockets ?: Gulfstream Park, Oaklawn Park and Santa Anita Picks for January 22, 2020

Ricky’s Rockets? started off the week strong cashing some tickets from Aqueduct and Gulfstream Park on Thursday afternoon. It’s time to get Oaklawn into the mix for the first time! Opening day from Hot Springs, Arkansas is here and we are ready to go!

Gulfstream Park January 22, 2020

Race 7: Starter Allowance for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the turf

#8 Yamato has shown the ability to be consistent no matter the race or conditions. The only other time he went this distance, he broke his maiden by over 3 lengths. #10 My Point Exactly is looking for his first win since September, but is an extremely strong runner and deserves to be in this spot.

Race 8: $16,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for Florida-bred fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf

#2 Double Medal was good in her return to Gulfstream after running a slew of races north of the border. She will look for things to heat up quickly on the front end so she can close. #5 War Star finished just ahead of Double Medal in that race at the end of 2020. I wouldn’t be surprised to see these two do battle at the end once again.

Race 9: $25,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#1 Untitled is interesting for a couple of reasons. He’s had great success here at Gulfstream winning 2/4 career races here, but hasn’t run since July. Will the layoff impede him from finding success at his favorite track? #4 Arham was completely dominant in his debut, but this is a major step up for him. I think he will win but it certainly won’t be by 7 lengths.

Race 10: $20,000 Maiden Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf

#4 Winnipeg Wonder should enjoy getting back to sprinting on the turf for the first time in her career. Her early speed will make her tough to beat. #5 K’s Running Free ran one of her better races last August here at Gulfstream Park going 5 furlongs on the turf. 6/1 would be good value for her if she could get the job done.
