Ricky’s Rockets ?: Gulfstream Park, Oaklawn Park and Santa Anita Picks for February 5, 2020

It wasn’t a bad start to the month for Ricky’s Rockets? as we cashed in nicely from Gulfstream yesterday. I promised on the Rocket Hour it would be a special day at Gulfstream. We gave out the $3 Pick 4 for $2,016 on the website. 50 cent Pick 4 on the show for $336 and the Pick 5 for $1,518.65 and Pick 6 for $979.66 for fun! As we head toward the weekend, we get a chance to throw Santa Anita back into the mix as well! Let’s start off the weekend strong and build the bankroll towards a massive Saturday across the country!

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park, 9-race preview at Oaklawn Park and 8-race preview of Santa Anita.

Best of luck!

Gulfstream Park February 5, 2020

Race 7: $20,000-$16,000 Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf

#1 Our Destiny was too close to an incredibly fast pace last time out. This race could set up to be the same here, and breaking from the rail might not be such a bad thing. Luis Saez will have a few options as they break from the gate. #8 Bernin’ Thru Gold continues to drop in class after running two dismal races in a row. He was scheduled to run on the turf last time out, but weather made a mess of those plans. Let’s see what he does in his turf debut as he looks for his second elusive win.

Race 8: Allowance for Florida-bred 3-year-olds going 5 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

This race is one of the more competitive ones in this field, and trying to eliminate some was tough to do. #1 Gatsby was very very poor last time out at 7/5 but I want her back here. She dueled early on with the leaders which ultimately led to her fading. Hopefully Irad Ortiz Jr. chooses to have her sit off of the pace here. #3 Real Talk finished second in the same race, and honestly was much better. If he runs the same race again, I’m not sure he will be beaten.

Race 9: $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf

#2 Blind Ambition made his return to Gulfstream Park in the Janus Stakes on New Year’s Day, but he was outclassed. The running line says bumped at the start and after watching the replay, I do think he was impeded early on. He’s better than what he showed in that spot. #8 Yes I Am Free won at this level in two straight races so I’m not going against him here. He will be a short price, but well worth it.

Race 10: $25,000-$20,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-olds going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#3 Gael Power will look to win on debut for George Weaver. Weaver is winning at 14% with first time starters and at 33% when Tyler Gaffalione rides for him in the last 365 days. When looking at the other runners, there isn’t much to love about them whatsoever. #8 Command Central has run into some tough Maiden Special Weight runners in the past. Whether it’s bad luck or he’s just not that good, he finds himself in for a tag for the first time. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him a little more forwardly placed than what we’ve seen from him in the past.
