Ricky’s Rockets ?: Gulfstream Park, Oaklawn Park and Santa Anita Picks for February 12, 2020

It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no it’s a rocket soaring through the sky! Ricky’s Rockets ? repeated last Thursday’s performance and was great again on Thursday afternoon sweeping the card at Oaklawn Park! We brought home both Pick 4’s (540.95, $358.95) and both Pick 5’s ($1,398.95, $3,243.45) to wrap up the day. We will look to continue the momentum into Friday afternoon and continue to build our bankrolls. This will be the final day of racing for the weekend at Oaklawn Park, due to inclement weather.

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park, 9-race preview at Oaklawn Park and 8-race preview of Santa Anita.

Best of luck!

Gulfstream Park February 12, 2020

Race 7: $75,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for 3-year-olds going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#10 Kiger was awful in the Mucho Macho Man Stakes last time out. The connections will try the turf with him for the first time in his career. He has a chance to swoop by the field down the stretch, based on the amount of speed in this race. #12 Whatmakessammyrun will get his chance to run at this level again after finishing 2nd by less than two lengths last time out. His post position does him zero favors.

Race 8: $12,500 Allowance Optional Claiming for Florida-bred fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#2 Dizzy is one of the consistent horses that usually gets me to bet my money on her. She belongs at this level and should be able to get the job done as she tries this spot for the 3rd straight race. #6 Our Fantasy jumps up in class after a dominating win at the $12,500 Claiming level. When she runs on the dirt, she’s 6/7 finishing in the money in her career.

Race 9: $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#5 Miss Tehran comes out of a tough Robert Frankel Stakes (G3) won by Mucho Unusual. For people who follow California racing closely, they know how good she is. #8 Sun Summers is in fantastic form, and ran a winning race in the Sunshine Filly and Mare Turf Stakes. She hasn’t lost two races in a row since early in her 2020 campaign for her old barn.

Race 10: $35,000-$30,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-olds going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#2 Load Up Moe will have to come from far back to beat this group, which he should have no problem doing. This is one of the weaker Maiden Claiming fields. #5 Flamingo Hawk ran his best race after dropping in for a tag last time out. He still needs to improve in a big way here, but he is on the right track. Tyler Gaffalione and Saffie Joseph Jr. are a duo that must be included on all multi-race tickets.
