Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Gulfstream Park, Oaklawn Park and Santa Anita Park Picks for March 19, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets🚀 started off the week right by cashing some nice tickets at Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park. Unfortunately it was a little chalky, but the object of this game is to pick winners! It’s perfect timing, as we through Santa Anita into the mix for the first time this week. The main goal is to build our bankrolls for the Louisiana Derby (G2) and the Fair Grounds Oaks (G2), and this was a good start to the week! Let’s make Friday as good as Thursday, and we’ll be on our way!

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park, 9-race preview of Oaklawn Park and 8-race preview of Santa Anita Park.

Best of luck!

Gulfstream Park March 19, 2021

Race 7: $20,000-$16,000 Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the turf

#3 Freedom’s Flight was running some of his better races last year over the summer, but he was forced to hit the sidelines. In his return to the track, he struggled to maintain the same form and run a quality race. He’s either not the same horse, or needs some time to get back into form. #7 Break Beat belongs at this level and has proven that time and time again. This is a negative barn switch, but the right logical step.

Race 8: $6,250 Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#2 Assume Control won at this level last time out after looking relatively pedestrian in similar spots. She looked impressive getting to the lead, and a repeat of that race puts her in the winners’ circle. #6 Flashing Diamond may be sitting the perfect trip to pass some of the leaders down the stretch. She’s all about positioning, and how close she is to the leaders after the first furlong.

Race 9: $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 3/8 miles (11 furlongs) on the turf

#1 Jais’s Solitude is one of many runners to consider given the unique distance, and where these runners are situated. On class alone he makes the most sense, but he hasn’t won since last April. #3 Monarchs Glen does have a win over this distance, but that came back in England may races ago. There’s a legitimate case made for every horse in the field.

Race 10: $20,000-$16,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the turf

#4 Setting the Mood isn’t too far removed from running 4th in the Belmont Oaks Invitational (G1) last year at Belmont Park. She never really lived up to the hype, and now finds herself as the morning-line favorite in an open Claiming race. #7 Freddymo Factor has finished second twice in two similar races, and makes a ton of sense. IT’s hard to keep her out of any multi-race sequences.
