Kentucky Downs September 9, 2021

Race 8: Starter Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#7 The Connector has been going 5 or 5 1/2 furlongs for the majority of his 2021, so this will be a different test for him. Corey Lanerie was aboard when he was last seen at Keeneland back in April. #8 Bad Beat Brian comes into this one looking for his first win since March. Mike Maker was in charge back then as well, and now has him again, heading into the fall months.

Race 9: Global Tote Juvenile Sprint Stakes for 2-year-olds going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#3 Masseto makes his United States debut, after running in Ireland and England. Tyler Gaffalione takes the mount for Mark Casse, on this 7/2 morning-line, second betting choice. #5 Red Danger won his turf debut, going 5 1/2 furlongs at Saratoga in August. He looked like a completely different runner when he hit the grass for the first time.

Race 10: One Dreamer for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile 70 yards (8 furlongs 70 yards) on the turf

#7 Dominga will be happy she doesn’t have to see She’sonthewarpath and War Like Goddess in this race. She will be tested, and the main contender to knock her off would be #10 Hendy Woods. They faced each other in a stakes race at Indiana Grand last summer, and Hendy Woods got the best of her over a yielding turf course.

Race 11: Maiden Special Weight for 2-year-olds going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf

It’s pretty safe to say Wesley Ward has two of the more talented runners in this race. #3 Castle Leoch will get Joel Rosario aboard, after a disappointing effort at Saratoga in August. #11 Admiral Halsey made his debut in that race, finishing ahead of his stablemate. John Velazquez gets the call here, usually indicating this is the more talented of the two runners.
