Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Gulfstream Park, Kentucky Downs and Laurel Park Picks for September 12, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀 is ready to attack the final day of the Kentucky Downs meet! It’s only been a couple of weeks since we started the meet, but it’s brought plenty of excitement. Let’s try to cap off the six-day meet by cashing some tickets!

Kentucky Downs September 12, 2021

Race 7: Ainsworth Stakes for 2-year-old fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#9 Mystic Eyes was dominant on debut, in a restricted Maiden Special Weight race at Saratoga. John Velazquez was extremely impressed with how she ran off at 3/5 for Todd Pletcher. #12 Lady Danae wasn’t in a restricted race on debut, and went off at 11/1. The morning-line oddsmaker seems to think the betting public will like this filly a little more.

Race 8: Nelson’s Green Brier Whiskey Music City Stakes for 3-year-old fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#6 Tobys Heart is looking for her first win since April, when she ran at Keeneland. It seems to suit her much better, when she gets the chance to sprint. #7 Illegal Smile finished second in the Galway Stakes, a race Wesley Ward must’ve liked. This is a tougher field, so let’s see how she handles this. 

Race 9: Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon Stakes for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 5/16 miles (10 1/2 furlongs) on the turf

#3 Micheline hasn’t been competitive since she ran in the Hillsborough Stakes (G2) back in March. She hasn’t been good in the three subsequent starts. #4 Luck Money ran a great race, finishing fourth to War Like Goddess in the Glens Falls Stakes (G2). War Like Goddess is the best older filly and mare on the turf in the country at the moment.

Race 10: Starter Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/2 miles (12 furlongs) on the turf

#2 Jimmy D will make his 58th career start, but only his first at Kentucky Downs. He’s an extremely accomplished runner, as he climbs closer to the double-digit win mark. #10 Yamato is looking for his first win since 2020, but he should be able to compete here. Getting Luis Saez aboard certainly will help his cause as well.
