Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Gulfstream Park, Keeneland and Oaklawn Park Picks for April 15, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Gulfstream Park, Keeneland and Oaklawn Park Picks for April 15, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets🚀 had struggled most of the weekend, but Sunday afternoon at Oaklawn Park made up for a lot of it. We were able to bring home the early Pick 4 for $336.45 and the early Pick 5 for $1,355.75. It was much needed, and with the end to the weekend, we are gathering momentum for another great week of racing! We are back at Gulfstream, Keeneland and Oaklawn on Thursday afternoon to kick off the week in style.

Also included below: my 9-race preview of Gulfstream Park, 9-race preview of Keeneland, 9-race preview of Oaklawn Park!

Best of luck!

Keeneland April 15, 2021

Race 6: $50,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the dirt

#5 Sometimes Always only made one start for Hugh Robertson before getting shipped to Joe Sharp’s barn. He was pretty good on debut, and there has to be a sign of confidence for the mere fact he gets put up for a much higher tag in his second start. #7 Abdan needed to drop in for a tag considering how bad he was against Maiden Special Weight competition. He’s one of my better plays of the day at a solid price with a great jockey.

Race 7: Allowance for 4-year-olds and upward going 5 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#2 Boldor hasn’t been on the turf since 2018 when he faced Carotari and Texas Wedge. Those two turf runners are much better than this field, and Boldor does have a win on the turf as well. Luis Saez is the perfect rider for this horse, if he finds his turf form. #3 Maven hasn’t been seen since his race at Kentucky Downs last September, and he was noted for taking a bad step in that race. He has one win over the turf here in the United States, and it came at Keeneland back in 2020.

Race 8: Allowance for 3-year-old fillies going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Mischiefful faces winners for the first time and she showed fantastic professionalism by improving in her second career start. Corey Lanerie is one of Ian Wilkes’ main riders, and gets the call for this filly’s first start against winners. #7 R Working Girl debuted at Aqueduct last year, so immediately my thoughts are this filly isn’t very good. I’ve been able to watch some workouts here at Keeneland, and she’s been skipping over the track with ease.

Race 9: Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the turf

#2 Coastana did everything right in her second career start except get her nose down in time. There’s nothing Luis Saez can do differently and that’s why Cherie DeVaux gives him another chance to get this filly to the winners’ circle first. #10 Ballymore Star returned in 2021 off of a nine-month layoff for Roger Attfield. I’m not sure she’s good enough, but there was a sign that she may be better moving forward.
