Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park Picks for March 4, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park Picks for March 4, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets🚀 had another strong month last month, but we aren’t satisfied with the success we’ve had! As the Kentucky Derby talk picks up in March, we hope to do the same. We start the month with two fantastic cards at Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park. This weekend will be another strong one, but Thursday afternoon can be the start to a new month and get those bankrolls skyrocketing!

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park and 9-race preview of Oaklawn Park.

Best of luck!

Gulfstream Park March 4, 2021

Race 7: Maiden Special Weight for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#2 Katama Moonlight has had a ton of chances in her career, with four races coming in Florida. She wants to go two turns on the turf, but she’s extremely vulnerable, even though she’s one of the more talented mares in this spot. #9 Look Me Over has been tough to figure out in her career, because of her inconsistent running-style. I’d like to see Corey Lanerie try and get her to the lead quickly and let get go for as long as she can.

Race 8: $12,500 Allowance Optional Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 5 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Unpublished will have to run better if she’s going to beat the favorite in this race, but she is dropping in class. We haven’t seen her since last October so maybe the layoff will do her some good after running 12 times in 2020. #7 Soldollie continues to run fantastic races regardless of the conditions and the level. It also doesn’t seem to matter who the trainer is either, as she looks for her third win in four starts.

Race 9: $25,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going about 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#6 Vividly looked pretty good at this level after missing the break in her United States debut. It was her first race since July 28 in England, so having abad start for her isn’t a surprise at all. The fractions were quick, but she skipped across the turf surface to finish a close fourth. #8 North Broadway returns to the track where she broke her maiden last year. After failing to run in the Ballston Spa Stakes (G2), she is a sneaky 8/1 in her 2021 debut.

Race 10: $20,000-$16,000 Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf

#2 Going for Gold proved he can run at this level, evidenced by the fact he finished second earlier this month in this exact spot. This was his first race since last February so he should do much better with a little fitness, and knocking off some rust as well. #5 Crack Shot shouldn’t be penalized for the way he ran in his Gulfstream Park debut late last year. He likes to be on the lead, and he didn’t get a chance to do that after starting slowly out of the gate. Look for him to bounce back in a big way here.
