Ricky’s Rockets ?: Gulfstream Park and Oaklawn Park Picks for February 4, 2020

January was one of the best months we’ve ever had. Ricky’s Rockets ? was able to cash on Pegasus Day, bring home thousands of dollars on multiple Saturdays and Sundays, and have some fun doing it! It’s time to turn the page to a brand new month and start this week off right!

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park and 9-race preview at Oaklawn Park.

Best of luck!

Gulfstream Park February 4, 2020

Race 7: Starter Allowance for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#1 Calibrator draws the rail in this spot, and that certainly gives him an advantage here. The last time we saw him on the track, Edgard Zayas got him to the lead and ran a merry-go-round race. I think he can do the same here with a lack of speed signed on for this race. #5 Zap Daddy is coming off of a win against conditioned-claimers on January 6. He will need to run even better for Carlos David, who will be making his second start for him. I think there’s more room for improvement here.

Race 8: $50,000-$40,000 Claiming for 4-year-olds and upward going about 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#4 Renaisance Frolic lost his rider in his last race and ultimately never recorded a finish. The race two starts back at the $62,500 Allowance Optional Claiming level is good enough to win here. #8 Mo Maverick has been consistent for the most part against tougher runners. In for the $50,000 price tag, this could be a free race for the connections considering most people won’t plunge for a 7-year-old gelding.

Race 9: $12,500 Allowance Optional Claiming for Florida-bred fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#4 Loriloupies couldn’t get the job done as a 3/5 favorite back in July at this level. She has to overcome a long layoff, but if there’s a trainer who could get her ready, it’s Saffie Joseph Jr., who’s winning at 20% at the meet. #5 My Sarasota Star needs to be included because she gets back to her best surface. She’s finished in the money in 8/13 races over the main track and 4/7 in the money at this distance.

Race 10: $35,000-$30,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-old fillies going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the turf

#10 Take Me as I Am was an absolute no show last time out going 5 furlongs. I only want her going longer, and she gets back to 8 furlongs here for the first time since September 19. This is also her first time running this distance against Maiden Claiming runners. #11 Winter Princess has plenty room for improvement based on her last race at this level. She has Juan Carlos Avila in her corner, who’s winning at 19% at the meet. At 15/1, there’s too much value in only her second career start.
