Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Delaware Park, Indiana Grand and Saratoga Picks for July 22, 2021

#RickysRockets🚀 started off the week strong, continuing the fantastic start we’ve had to the Saratoga meet. It’s crazy to think we are five days into the meet already! One of the best things about racing from Saratoga Springs on Wednesdays and Thursdays, is the Steeplechase races to open up the card. We have another one on Thursday afternoon, as we get Delaware Park and Indiana Grand into the mix as well!

Also included below: my 8-race preview of Delaware Park, 9-race preview of Indiana Grand, 10-race preview of Saratoga!

Saratoga July 22, 2021

Race 7: $16,000 Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#8 My Alluring Lady hasn’t been close in either of her last two starts, but it’s hard to envision her being so poor at this level. This is 10x easier than anything she faced in her two races against winners. #10 Chloe Rose finished sixth last time out at the $40,000 level, so we know what she’s capable of. This will be her second start under Bruce Brown’s tutelage.

Race 8: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 3/8 miles (11 furlongs) on the inner turf

#2 Cat’s Pajamas has run two races over this turf course, but it was in the Lake Placid Stakes (G2) and the Lake George Stakes (G3) last summer. #5 Lovely Lucky is making only her second start of the year, and her first since January. She won her last stakes race over this turf course in July at close to 20/1.

Race 9: Allowance for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt

#3 Ice Princess gets back to the main track where she’s finished second twice this year. Irad Ortiz Jr. was aboard last time out when she competed over the turf at Belmont Park. #6 Love and Love has had the lead at some point in her last three races, but she’s gotten caught late. She has to be taken seriously given the way she runs.

Race 10: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Mellon turf

#4 Social Whirl dropped in class for the first time last time out, and she ran her best race. If she can get the lead like she did last time, she can go the whole way. #12 Stella Mars finished ahead of Social Whirl last time out, indicating these two are the ones to beat. She will try to catch Social Whirl in the stretch like she did last time out.
