Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Delaware Park, Indiana Grand and Lone Star Park Picks for July 8, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets🚀 continues its tour around the United States with racing from Delaware, Indiana and Texas on Thursday afternoon. I’m incredibly excited to take on these tracks and see what they have in store for us. At the time of this article, we are also just one week away until opening day at Saratoga as well! Things are starting to heat up fast as we look to continue momentum from Wednesday’s Indiana Derby/Oaks

Lone Star Park July 8, 2021

Race 8: $15,000 Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf

#9 Gold Vermillion held his own in his first attempt facing winners a couple of weeks ago for Steve Asmussen. He’s more than capable of winning this race, but this distance may be a touch too short for him. #10 First Bump Ridge comes out of some tough Allowance races. I’m not sure how good he really is, but the drop down in class is too much to ignore.

Race 9: $25,000 Maiden Claiming for Texas-bred 2-year-olds going 5 furlongs on the dirt

I’m hopping aboard the Bret Calhoun train in this one, as he brings two colts to the party. #2 Considerate Doneron and #6 Shanghai Silver will attempt to make their debuts winning ones. Calhoun is winning at 25% at the meet and has finished in the money at 60% as well. They both will have to run well to beat the Steve Asmussen runner #7 Ready to Shake.

Race 10: Maiden Special Weight for Texas-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#5 Claimjumper took a big step forward from his first to his second career start. He closed into a pretty quick pace, something he will look to do again, but this time with the intentions on winning. #8 Always On the Run has finished third in three straight races for Danny Pish, as he returns to the main track. His last race on the dirt was his best one by a decent amount.

Race 11: Maiden Special Weight for 3-year-olds and upward going 5 furlongs on the turf

#7 Win Won Dobbs made his turf debut last time out, and showed the grass is where he wants to be. He’s quick enough out of the gate that he won’t be shuffled back, but he needs to break a little sharper. #10 Mister Mmmmm has everything a bettor would want: speed, pedigree and good connections. He had no excuse last time out where he held the lead for 3/4 of the race. He is the horse to beat by a decent amount if he runs his best possible race.
