Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Del Mar, Kentucky Downs and Saratoga Picks for September 6, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀 has some good news and some bad news. The good news is that it’s Labor Day, which means we have primetime racing on Monday all over the country. The bad news, is with that being said, this is the final day of the Saratoga and Del Mar summer meet. It’s been an amazing summer with so much excitement, day in and day out. Let’s cap off both meets with winning days, and make closing day a highlight of the summer!

Saratoga September 6, 2021

Race 9: $45,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#7 Betsy Blue has never finished outside the top three, no matter the surface, distance or condition. I expect her to run another good race here. #8 Honey Money finished about a 1/2 length better than Betsy Blue on August 11. That goes to show how close these two fillies are on paper.

Race 10: Hopeful Stakes (G1) for 2-year-olds going 7 furlongs on the dirt

#6 Wit has arguably been the best two year old in the country over the summer and into the early part of the fall. He will look to put his undefeated streak on the line as he looks to add a G1 victory to his resume. #8 High Oak also comes into this race undefeated, winning the Saratoga Special (G2) last time out. These two colts are going to be players into the Breeders Cup Juvenile conversation.

Race 11: Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the inner turf

#2 King Cause won his first Saratoga race last time out, taking that field the whole way at 17/1. He’s not going to be able to sneak away at that sort of price in this spot. #3 Atone showed some speed last time out, but he faded after being pressed the first half mile. Luis Saez takes over for Tyler Gaffalione in this spot.

Race 12: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 5 1/2 furlongs on the Melon turf

#4 Stella Mars has finished second in two straight starts at this level for Ray Handal. There’s nowhere else for her to go as she looks to break her maiden in her ninth career start. #6 New York Supreme also finished second in this spot last time out, but didn’t have the final kick t get home. Ricardo Santana Jr. was aboard when she finished third at this level two starts back.
