Saratoga August 5, 2021

Race 7: Starter Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the inner turf

#2 Mystery Bank broke his maiden over this turf course last year, and based on his running pattern, he likes to win every other race he’s a part of. #7 Landbiscuit actually broke his maiden on the dirt, so I’m wondering why Bill Mott puts him back on the dirt. He’s as consistent as they come, finishing in the money in all four of his efforts.

Race 8: Allowance for New York-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt

#1 Our Man Mike only won one race in his career, and it was with Jose Ortiz aboard. Let’s see if Jose Ortiz can get him back to the winners circle for the second time this year. #2 Quick Return broke his maiden here at Saratoga a couple of weeks ago after four failed efforts. He now gets Ricardo Santana Jr. to ride for the first time in his career.

Race 9: Birdstone Stakes for 4-year-olds and upward going 1 3/4 miles (14 furlongs) on the dirt

#3 Lone Rock comes into this one in the best form of his life, winning four of five races in 2021. Ramon Vasquez makes the trip for this one, just like he did in the Brooklyn Stakes (G2) when he won by over 11 lengths. #4 Moretti finished a distant third behind Lone Rock in the Brooklyn Stakes, but still looks to be the second best runner on paper.

Race 10: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the inner turf

#1 Bella Principessa has run her best two races on the grass, but she’s disappointed as a favorite in the past. Let’s see if Irad Ortiz Jr. can get her across the wire first. #3 Mondeuse looked her best when she stretched out her legs for the first time. She’s gotten better and better with each and every start in her career.
