Ricky’s Rockets ?: Del Mar, Gulfstream Park, Kentucky Downs and Saratoga Picks for September 7, 2020

Unfortunately as I write this post, I’m responsible for bringing the news that Monday is the final day at Saratoga and Del Mar. Both meets have been incredible with tons of excitement and great performances! Monday’s feature at Saratoga is the Runhappy Hopeful Stakes (G1) for 2-year-olds going 7 furlongs on the dirt.

Also included below: my 11-race preview of Del Mar and 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park!

Best of luck!

Race 11: Starter Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (9 furlongs) on the outer turf

#6 Mr. Kringle ran at this level last time out and finished a close third. He will look to end his Saratoga in good form and John Terranova has quietly had a good meet winning at 17%. #9 Elusive Ruler will make his first start in Bruce Brown’s barn who’s winning at 16% at the meet. This 3-year-old has shown he can be competitive if placed in the right spot.

Race 12: Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the inner turf

#3 Lonesome Fugitive had every chance to win at this level last time out. The only time he’s won was on a yielding turf course on June 6, 2020. Does he like moisture in the ground, or has he been a bad luck horse? I’m willing to give him one more chance. #5 Basquiat will try turf for the first time, after failing to improve off of his maiden win on April 25 at Gulfstream Park. His trainer Chad Brown is winning at 35% in the last 365 days when his runners make this switch in surfaces.

Race 13: Runhappy Hopeful Stakes (G1) for 2-year-olds going 7 furlongs on the dirt

#5 Reinvestment Risk had one of the most impressive races for 2-year-olds at the meet on August 1. He took the lead in the backstretch and never looked back. He will be a short price, but well worth it as he tries his luck in this competitive stakes race. #6 Jackie’s Warrior remained undefeated after winning the Saratoga Special Stakes (G2) by three lengths on August 7. He and Reinvestment Risk could be battling it out in the stretch making this race must see TV!

Race 14: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the outer turf

In the final race of 2020, it would be fitting that Todd Pletcher who’s leading the meet in wins with 31, caps off Saratoga with a win in the finale. #12 Gunman is SCRATCHED! Include #13 Seize the Hay.
