Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Del Mar, Gulfstream Park and Saratoga Picks for September 4, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀 is ready for the final Saturday at Del Mar and Saratoga! This Saturday is a little different at Saratoga, as we highlight two races that are normally run at Belmont in the fall. The two feature races on the card, are the Flower Bowl Stakes (G1) and the Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1). Let’s attack the final Saturday at Saratoga, and cash some tickets as well.

Saratoga September 4, 2021

Race 9: Allowance for fillies and mares New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the Melon turf

#1A Cara’s Dreamer has been better as of late, but how many seconds and thirds is she going to rack up. At one point or another, it seems like she has to get the job done. Like Cara’s Dreamer, #2 Electric Youth has struggled to run well at this level. This isn’t the strongest Allowance group of all time.

Race 10: Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#1 Tuggle has had a problem staying fit, running just once race since last April. Irad Ortiz Jr. was board when he finished second at this level at Belmont in June. #10 Hometown has been running races longer than this one, so he will have to run well off of the layoff, and the cutback in distance for Chad Brown.

Race 11: Flower Bowl Stakes (G1) for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 3/8 miles (11 furlongs) on the inner turf course

#3 War Like Goddess has won three in a row, including a dominant effort in the Glens Falls Stakes (G2) last time out. She proved she can handle the distance with ease last time out. #6 Great Island won the Matchmaker Stakes (G3) at Monmouth. This will be a completely different challenge for her as she tries G1 competition.

Race 12: Jockey Club Gold Cup Stakes (G1) for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/4 miles (10 furlongs) on the dirt

#1 Forza Di Oro has been on a roll dating back to the beginning of last year. It seems Bill Mott has been able to keep him in training, as he looks to make it four wins in a row. #4 Happy Saver had won five in a row before losing to Max Player in the Suburban Handicap (G2). This would be a nice way for him to get back on track, not having lost on a fast main track ever.
