Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Del Mar, Gulfstream Park and Saratoga Picks for July 25, 2021

It was another Saturday for the ages, with some dominating performances making headlines. As we progress throughout the Del Mar and Saratoga meet, we have to appreciate how superstars give us their best performances. We certainly saw that on Saturday, and will continue that as well on Sunday as we wrap up the week.

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Del Mar, 10-race preview of Gulfstream Park, 10-race preview of Saratoga!

Saratoga July 25, 2021

Race 7: Starter Allowance for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Cadeau de Paix has been fantastic at this distance, winning 4/8 when she travels six furlongs. She will need her best effort to beat #7 Kaely’s Star. This filly ships to Saratoga in good hands, under Brad Cox. Cox is on top of the trainer standings, with a very limited number of runners.

Race 8: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt OFF TURF

TURF RUNNERS HAVE BEEN SCRATCHED! WILL BE USING: #2 YANKEE DIVISION AND #13 YOU’RE TO BLAME!

Race 9: Shuvee Stakes (G3) for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt

#4 Dunbar Road returned to the track in 2021 in the La Troienne Stakes (G1) against Shedaresthedevil. This is a much easier group of runners. #7 Royal Flag finished second in this race last year to Letruska, who might be the best in the country right now. She’s never finished worse than third in any of her nine races.

Race 10: $20,000 Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the dirt

#6 Someday Jones has been an extremely productive horse in his career, and continues to run well as an eight year old. Irad Ortiz Jr. takes over here, but he will have to run better to beat #8 Mubarmaj. He just won at the $25,000 level and beat many of these runners already. He’s clearly the horse to beat coming into this one.
