Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Del Mar, Gulfstream Park and Saratoga Picks for August 8, 2021

Another Saturday of racing is complete, and what a day it was. There were so many performances that left us in awe, and many that left us in disbelief. Ricky’s Rockets 🚀 cashed in on some big tickets as well, which always makes the day that much better! It’s time to wrap up the week with three more stakes races at Saratoga. Even when we think the week is over, Sunday’s card proves the action truly never stops!

Also included below: my 10-race preview of Del Mar, 8-race preview of Gulfstream Park, 10-race preview of Saratoga!

Saratoga August 8, 2021

Race 7: Fasig-Tipton De La Rose Stakes for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the inner turf

#3 Viadera has been fantastic since coming to the United States. Will she be able to repeat her great form however as the calendar has turned? #7 Regal Glory looks the horse to beat after her loss in the Just A Game Stakes (G1) back in June. That race is much better than this one on paper.

Race 8: Adirondack Stakes (G2) for 2-year-old fillies going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#7 Wicked Halo has faced winners already, which should prove costly in this race for Steve Asmussen. If the track has any moisture in it, it should help this daughter by Gun Runner. #8 Mainstay already ran over this track at the beginning of the meet, in the Schuylerville Stakes (G3) on July 15. She’s going to be tough to beat if she repeats that effort.

Race 9: Saratoga Oaks Invitational Stakes (G3) for 3-year-old fillies going 1 3/16 (9 1/2 furlongs) on the Melon turf

#1 Higher Truth was on a two-race win streak prior to her loss in the Belmont Oaks (G1). Jose Ortiz will look to get revenge on #5 Con Lima when they hit the top of the stretch. Con Lima has only one way of running, and that’s on the lead. She’s also coming out of the Belmont Oaks (G1) when she finished second by less than a length.

Race 10: Allowance for New York-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the inner turf

#8 Stanhope makes his first start in his new barn, which should help him in a big way. When he’s at his best, he’s making strides on or near the lead. #10 Chrome Dixie has run many good races at big odds, but I don’t think he will have crazy odds here. He fits in well with the rest of the group.
