Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Belmont Park, Ellis Park and Prairie Meadows Picks for July 2, 2021 of

#RickysRockets🚀 kicked off July in a big way, cashing some nice tickets over some wet and sloppy tracks. Nothing like a sweep of a card and some top-choice winners to start the month off right! On Friday, we head to another track we’ve never been to before, and that’s Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. This is one of the tracks we haven’t gotten a chance to cover, but the card is going to be fantastic. There are three stakes races on the card, all of which have purses over $200,000! We don’t tend to cover night tracks, but this is certainly one worth attending and putting some money down on!

Also included below: my 9-race preview of Belmont Park, 8-race preview of Ellis Park, 9-race preview of Prairie Meadows!

Belmont Park July 2, 2021

Race 6: Maiden Special Weight for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the dirt OFF TURF

TURF RUNNERS SCRATCHED! USING #10 ROAD TO REMEMBER AND #11 RAFFINITY

Race 7: Starter Allowance for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#2 Kid Bourbon has a lot of wet dirt form, which sets up well in this race. There’s going to be a lot of moisture on the track and he should have no problem skipping over it. #3 Uncle Moonlight has been much better as a four year old this year, winning on April 25, and losing by less than a length at this level in May. He clearly has taken a step forward in 2021.

Race 8: $45,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 7 furlongs on the dirt OFF TURF

#9 Kokopelli may just be better than her, winning both of her career races by more than a length. Irad Ortiz Jr. will be the third different rider she’s had in her three attempts. ALSO USING MTO #11 BETSY BLUE

Race 9: $45,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for New York-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the inner turf

#5 Ghost Giant ran in a similar spot two starts back, and represented herself well. Javier Castellano gets the call and will look to give Mertkan Kantarcmaci his second win of the meet. #7 Good Old Boy won at this level two starts back, but wasn’t able to repeat that performance. In the last two years, he’s finished in the money in 5/9 races.
