Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Belmont Park, Ellis Park and Gulfstream Park Picks for July 1, 2021

#RickysRockets🚀 is back for a brand new month! For a couple of weeks before Saratoga and Del Mar start, we will be all over the country visiting different tracks in different states. There isn’t a lot going on this weekend, but there are a lot of smaller tracks out there that have some great races, and more importantly, HUGE POOLS! Let’s get to it on Thursday afternoon as we head to Florida, Kentucky and New York to begin July!

Also included below: my 9-race preview of Belmont Park, 8-race preview of Ellis Park, 8-race preview of Gulfstream Park!

Belmont Park July 1, 2021

Race 6: $50,000 Maiden Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 7 furlongs on the widener turf

#6 Adele Kat gets back to a level where she belongs for Jimmy Ryerson. She ran at a similar level on debut, and proved that’s where she fits best, and will have a chance to win a race. #8 Evidence Based faced an absolutely loaded field down at Churchill Downs. This field is going to be a lot easier, and should see her in the winners’ circle.

Race 7: $50,000 Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 6 1/2 furlongs on the dirt

#2 Mi Tres Por Ciento won against tougher last time out, so why is he in this spot. The lengthy layoff is the most likely reason for this, and could help provide some value on him in this race. #6 Town Classic wasn’t too far away from Firenze Fire in the Runhappy Stakes (G3) a couple of months ago. He’s supposed to win this race on paper by a couple of lengths.

Race 8: Allowance for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the inner turf

#3 Pandamom and #4 Spungie have formed a nice little rivalry at this level. Pandamom likes to come a little further out of it, so I wouldn’t be surprised if she is trying to run down Spungie in the stretch. These two are in line to make this another tight finish down the stretch.

Race 9: $50,000 Maiden Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the widener turf

#2 Inspiration Point will attempt the turf for the first time, after showing consistent improvement under Todd Pletcher. This will also be his first race since January when he was running at Aqueduct. #6 Bail Out doesn’t need to improve much to beat this group. He does come into this race 0/22 in his career, but this race can ultimately be won by anyone.
