Belmont Park May 14, 2021

Race 6: $12,500 Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

#1 Allured should be much better in his second start off of the layoff for Orlando Noda. Right before his 2020 campaign ended, he was getting into form. I’m hoping Noda can get him back into that form because he’s good enough to win this race. #9 Hammerin Aamer is easily the most consistent in this field, and that’s enough of a reason to get the job done. He is the morning-line favorite, but no one is more deserving of that honor. Eric Cancel was aboard when he finished third last time out.

Race 7: $45,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#1 Fierce Lady has tried this spot over and over again, but I’m not seeing anyone else taking a big step up in class. She is looking for her first win since 2019, so trusting her can be a risky move. #5 Awesome Debate is easily in the best form out of all of the mares and should be able to keep that rolling in this race. Manny Franco picks up the mount for Jorge Vargas Jr.

Race 8: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for 3-year-olds going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the dirt

I’m not sure who’s going to beat #2 Stage Raider, so I’m not really going to entertain it. Stage Raider has a Prevalence feel to him, and I mean he should win in this spot easily. Prevalence never became the runner we thought he could be, but Stage Raider certainly can. He dominated in his second career race after losing to Prevalence in his debut.

Race 9: $40,000 Maiden Claiming for New York-bred 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the widener turf

#9 Jade’s Dream shouldn’t be trusted, but his early speed will make me use him every single time. With that being said, this distance will be even more challenging for him, as opposed to some of his dirt races. #12 Ghostmon took a big step forward in his second career start finishing second at this level. He clearly has the most upside out of anyone in this group.
