Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Belmont Park, Churchill Downs and Oaklawn Park Picks for April 30, 2021

It was the perfect start to the week for #RickysRockets🚀, as we were able to cash some important tickets before the start of the weekend! After the start we got, it’s important that we keep the momentum going into a massive weekend! We have some great stakes action from Churchill Downs highlighted by the Kentucky Oaks (G1). There are five other stakes races at Churchill Downs even before we get to the Kentucky Oaks! It’s guaranteed to be another great day of racing, on the eve before the biggest day of the year.

Also included below: my 9-race preview of Belmont Park, 13-race preview of Churchill Downs, 11-race preview of Oaklawn Park!

Best of luck!

Belmont Park April 30, 2021

Race 6: Maiden Special Weight for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#3 Cali Fitz makes her debut for Jorge Abreu who’s winning at 32% with first time starters over the last 365 days. I’m not sure this field has any world beaters, so it’s extremely possible she gets the job done on debut. #6 Irresistible Girl is the most-likely winner based on her previous races. Her last race would’ve probably been good enough to win here.

Race 7: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/16 miles (8 1/2 furlongs) on the dirt

#5 Per Capita comes into this race with a stellar resume, having finished in the money in 6/7 races in his career. He’s had a big issue staying fit over time, but when Todd Pletcher can keep him together, he’s one heck of a horse. #8 Highest Honors was one of the better three year olds in the country in 2019, but we haven’t seen him since that moment in time. I’m hoping he’s back to the form he was in, but it will be at an extremely short price.

Race 8: Allowance for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the widener turf

#3 Union Gables didn’t belong in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (G1) last year. Her odds of close to 62/1 would agree with that sentiment as well, considering she didn’t beat one horse. #8 Minaun is an unknown, but her trainer Chad Brown is spectacular in these sorts of situations. We have no choice but to trust him, even though his filly will most likely be the favorite.

Race 9: License Fee Stakes for fillies and mares 4-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the inner turf

#3 Lady Lawyer has been her best when sprinting on the turf, so I’m willing to eliminate her last effort. She was good in her race before that, but she’s best when going short distances like this race. #9 Sweet Melania makes her Belmont Park debut fo Todd Pletcher, while sprinting on the turf for the first time in her career. She’s extremely talented, but there are a ton of question marks here.
