Ricky’s Rockets 🚀: Belmont Park, Churchill Downs and Gulfstream Park Picks for September 25, 2021

Ricky’s Rockets 🚀 takes a trip to Bensalem, Pennsylvania for the first time in a long time! The reason for this is, we have eight stakes races to cover on Saturday afternoon! It’s Parx’s biggest day of the year, highlighted by the Cotillion (G1) and the Pennsylvania Derby (G1). It’s an absolute monster of a card, and it’s going to bring plenty of excitement before we get into October!

Also included below: my 9-race preview of Belmont Park, 10-race preview of Churchill Downs, and 9-race preview of Gulfstream Park!

Belmont Park September 25, 2021

Race 8: $80,000 Allowance Optional Claiming for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 mile (8 furlongs) on the widener turf

#8 In a Hurry has finished second at this level in two straight starts, making her one tough competitor. Someone like #10 Clara Peeters will have to run her best race to beat her. Clara Peeters is about the same as In a Hurry on paper, and on the track. I do think drawing toward the outside should help her a little bit more.

Race 9: Maiden Special Weight for New York-bred 2-year-olds going 6 furlongs on the dirt

#4 Iron Lion in Zion makes his debut for Tom Morley, who has gotten off to a red-hot start at this meet. Javier Castellano is also the hottest rider at the meet, making this colt a good use at 6/1. ALSO USING: #6 Who Hoo That’s Me

Race 10: Athenia Stakes (G3) for fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 1 1/8 miles (9 furlongs) on the inner turf

#2 Miss Teheran has been pretty good in her career, running in the top three in 9/13 career races. She will have to take her talent up a notch, as #4 Pocket Square looks to win her second race in a row. Irad Ortiz Jr. rode her to victory in an Allowance Optional Claiming race at 1/5.

Race 11: Maiden Special Weight for New York-bred fillies and mares 3-year-olds and upward going 6 furlongs on the dirt OFF TURF

#11 U Should B Dancing has had 9 chances to break her maiden already. She is certainly a vulnerable morning-line favorite to say the least. ALSO USING: #12 Lost In Five
